January 31st, 2025

Stone Arch Bridge has captivated me since I first crossed it. Especially each golden hour, where luminous limestone arcs contrast with the deep blue waters of the Mississippi. Yet, sorrow is also cemented in those stones.

My most vivid memories are near midnight, well within the winter, full of despair. I remember leaning on the railing, staring at Saint Anthony Falls, and shivering from the sensation of tears freezing. My husband and I had one of our first arguments on its deck, and our dog's tongue stuck to a streetlight when the temperature was well below zero. In the background, a brutalist tower loomed, over every aspect of my life.

Riley's story isn't mine, but it's a mirror. Life is complex, full of monotony, grief, but also moments of joy. Loss, Lakes, & Love celebrates those struggles, while maintaining some semblance of hope. I'm proud to announce January 31st, 2025 as its publication date.
